Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has stated that he has “no thoughts” of allowing Hakim Ziyech leave the club in January.
Since joining the club for £35 million from Ajax in 2020, Ziyech has struggled to find regular playing time, The 28-year-old has been linked with a loan move in the January transfer window, but Tuchel has dismissed the idea.
‘At the moment, there are no concerns about his future here in Cobham,’ Tuchel said ahead of Saturday’s match against Leicester ‘In the winter, there are no thoughts about a possible change, swap agreement, or whatever. I haven’t mentioned it to anyone in Cobham.
‘Hakim was not in my office expressing such a wish, thus he is a complete member of the squad right now.’
‘He’s a key player, a very skilled and ambitious player, and he’s an integral component of our team.’ He was last season, he is this season, and we always expect the best from him.
‘However, it’s a stiff competition.’ It’s simply impossible for me to allow everyone to play for the entire 90 minutes.’
Ziyech was a standout during Chelsea’s pre-season campaign, scoring in the UEFA Super Cup final penalty shootout victory over Villarreal.
However, a chronic shoulder injury cost him a lot of time and momentum, and he’s only now getting back to his best.
Tuchel believes the Moroccan star’s situation can be explained quite simply.
‘It’s quite simple. “I said many times in preseason that he was excellent,” Tuchel remarked.
‘He suffered a serious injury, which was a major setback.’ He played with pain and a lot of protection following his shoulder injury, which prevented him from being completely free, which is essential for his game, movements, position, and style of play.
‘In the last few games, he’s really stepped up.’ We had some injuries, so he took advantage of the opportunity to get additional playing time.
‘He was crucial, he provided an assist, and he scored.’ ‘It’s OK.’
