Xtra Time Web Desk: Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer is the latest big name to withdraw from the tennis event at the Tokyo Olympics which will begin from July 23. Federer joined Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams in withdrawing from the quadrennial event. The decision by Federer to pull out from the Tokyo Olympics was because of his sustained knee injury. The 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer has been troubled with the knee injury due to which he was forced to pull out of the French Open. He last played in Wimbledon where he lost to little-known Hubert Hurkacz in the semifinals.

In an instagram post, Federer wrote, “During the grass-court season, I, unfortunately, experienced a setback with my knee, and I have accepted that I must withdraw from the Tokyo Olympic Games. I am greatly disappointed, as it has been an honor and highlight of my career each time I have represented Switzerland .

I have already begun rehabilitation in the hopes of returning to the tour later this summer. I wish the entire Swiss team the best of luck and I will be rooting hard from afar. As always, Hopp Schwiz!”
