Click Next For Twitter ReactionsThe NFL media continues to eat up anything and everything Tom Brady feeds them before coming back and asking for more. This time around, however, Brady made one comment and NFL writers have been running with it for a week trying to figure out which team he was talking about. However, what they don’t understand is that they are still being played, with Tom Brady controlling the strings and the NFL media being his puppets. All I know is I don’t care which NFL team Tom Brady was talking about and the attention the media is giving him has Brady laughing behind their backs.
The 2020 NFL offseason and free agent signing period is still being written about as we reach the summer of 2021 thanks to an off-handed comment made by Tom Brady during a recent appearance on HBO’s “The Shop.” The show produced by LeBron James is a no holds barred conversation among athletes and other celebrities in a barbershop setting. In this recent episode we saw Brady discuss his free agency prior to his signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last spring, a signing that led to TB12 winning his seventh Super Bowl ring.
.@TomBrady full comments on @HBOTheShop:
“Looking back, I’m thinking ‘There’s no fuc-ing way I would’ve gone to that team. They said they didn’t want me! I know what that means! I know what that feels like! And I’m going to f— you up because of that.”pic.twitter.com/DZ32TnRdI5

During his free agency, it appears Brady had interest in a team that did not reciprocate that interest, prompting the future Hall of Famer to say, “you’re sticking with that motherfucker (at quarterback)?”
Ever since that comment was released ahead of the airing of the interview, those inside the NFL and the sports media at-large have tried to guess which team and quarterback Tom Brady was referring to. Speculation began in the Bay Area since many people felt at the time that Brady wanted to return home and play for his childhood team, the San Francisco 49ers, displacing their quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
Colin Cowherd chimed in with his feeling that the Chicago Bears were the team that blew off Brady in lieu of their embattled signal calling Mitchell Trubisky. Something the team denied quickly after the Fox Sports commentator posted his belief on social media with other teams like LA Chargers Indianapolis, and Tennessee being mentioned.
The LA Raiders were also mentioned as “that team” with Derek Carr being that “MF-er,” and with the team’s current general manager Mike Mayock being a former Pro Football Talk regular, the story they posted had some traction.
What’s troubling me about this is why would Tom Brady bring this up over a year later in a cryptic statement no one will get an answer about, and why in the world does the NFL media even care? We all knew Tom Brady was sought after in free agency last year, but we also knew teams like the Bears, 49ers and Raiders weren’t going to be able to move their current quarterback to bring in TB12 at the price he was asking for.
Is this Brady’s way of hiring the NFL media to taunt one or more of the teams that didn’t sign him last spring; and does he feel like he can get away with it now since he already has ring number seven in the trophy case?
At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what Brady “might have done” last year, because he clearly made the right decision. Perhaps this is his way of writing the narrative first that he wanted to be in Tampa Bay all along and that other teams might have had a chance, but were too dumb to pursue it. Which is a better storyline than Brady had no other options other than the Buccaneers last offseason.
Either way, Tom Brady should have either named the team (and QB) he is talking about or not bring up the topic at all. Once he did, the NFL media should have never given him another week of free publicity over last year’s free agency by covering a story with no ending. Because all this proves is that until he retires, the NFL is Tom Brady’s league, and everyone follows his every word.
