Will The Brooklyn Nets Soon Be Under An NBA Investigation? | Sports Takes & News | TooAthletic.com
There are reports that the Brooklyn Nets broke Covid-19 rules during the season and even violated the league’s salary cap and collective bargaining agreement, which may, if proven true, force Adam Silver to declare the contracts of at least two All-Star caliber NBA players null and void. Those players are Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, who, if reports are true, have been the benefactors of a team slush fund that could land them and the franchise in hot water.
This interview just keeps getting more wild the longer it goes. I can’t wait to read this bookhttps://t.co/tzQURoffAs

Matt Sullivan, author of the book “Can’t Stop the Hustle” spoke on the Dan Le Batard Show last week and had a lot to say about the Brooklyn Nets franchise:
“There’s a lot of things that the Nets do that aren’t kosher,” Sullivan said. “There’s a reason they have this kind of kremlin-esque wall around everything they do. During the middle of Covid, they were working out half the team – well, really, Kyrie, KD and their friends on the team – out in Kobe’s old gym in California. You weren’t allowed to do that during Covid. They were running a secret camp the whole time, trying to get Kyrie and KD in shape.”
And while breaking Covid protocols prior to last season may not be the worst offense in NBA history, Sullivan also said in the same interview:
“A very high-ranking official with the Nets who had a lot to do with the money said basically, there’s a blank check as soon as these guys got here – whether that’s buying a girlfriend or a girlfriend on the side a house in California for a week, whether that’s just putting up money for the boys and the homeboys and equipment for random shit, they’re totally cool with that.”
After what happened two years ago with Dennis Robertson, the uncle and advisor of Kawhi Leonard making demands of the Los Angeles Lakers during his free agency tour, the NBA appears to be experiencing another version of a recruiting scandal. Granted, star players like James Harden have often received special treatment teams, something that came to light when Harden was traded from Houston to Brooklyn. However, if the stories of breaking Covid protocols are true, the Nets can expect to be fined by the NBA, and worse, if what Sullivan just said about the franchise is anywhere close to being based in provable facts, there is a chance commissioner Adam Silver could, and may be forced to void the contracts of players like Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant as consequence for circumventing the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Adam Silver has lived a charmed life as NBA commissioner since taking over for David Stern in 2014. He managed the Donald Sterling case as best as he could, forcing the LA Clippers owner out of the league and overseeing him selling the franchise just months into his tenure, and he dealt with the Covid pandemic last season as well or better than any other sports league did by setting up a bubble to help finish the 2019-20 season. Now, however, in what could be a dangerous twist, Silver might be forced to take on star players and a new owner and punish them for partaking in a scheme that was organized by a franchise and taken advantage of by players.
Will Adam Silver lift up this carpet and discover more dirt than he ever imagined, and if he does, what will Silver do? At best, the NBA will need to investigate the allegations made by Matt Sullivan and try to explain it away; at worst, the league will need to take action.
Good luck Mr. Silver, because someone just dropped a big stick of dynamite in your office, and the fuse is already lit and burning.
