World Cup winner tells Arsenal he is interested in Premier League move

||

Long-term Arsenal target Mario Gotze says a move to the Premier League appeals to him as he hopes to achieve his dream of winning the Champions League.

Gotze was easily one of the best young talents in world football when he burst onto the scene, helped German win the world cup and then get that massive move to Bayern Munich.

But he never fulfilled his true potential and his career has not headed in the direction that many had hoped, and believed that he would achieve, but The PSV star has rejuvenated his career in Netherlands since making the switch to Eindhoven in 2020, and is starting to look like his best again

However, his contract is up with the Dutch giants in the summer of 2024 and Gotze, 29, could opt to follow German coach Roger Schmidt out the door as he looks to continue his career under the right coach, and has admitted the Premier League interests him

Gotze told Sports Illustrated: “I’ve always made it my mission that I really want to win the Champions League.

“That would be something I’d still like to achieve. I want to, I don’t have to. I think the competition is simply outstanding.

“I’ve now made the step out of the Bundesliga to Holland to see and experience something new.

“I knew only the Bundesliga, in which I played for 10 years. With my above-mentioned goal, however, I want to play at the highest level in Europe; preferably in Italy or Spain.

“The Premier League with its balanced league also appeals to me.”

“For me as a player, the coach is the most important person in football,” he said.

“Let’s see how things develop, first of all it’s about ending the current season as successfully as possible.

“That for me Roger Schmidt and his concept had a significant influence when moving to Eindhoven is also an open secret.”

When we saw Gotze burst onto the scene as a teenager, we really believed that he would become one of the best midfielders in world football, and we have been so surprised to see that he has been unable to handle the pressure of top level football

Before he made that move to Bayern, he would have been a great signing for Arsenal. But at this stage of his career, a team outside of the top six may be better
