Scottish track cyclist and Olympic Madison champion Katie Archibald has suffered ligament damage in both ankles after the driver of a 4×4 vehicle turned across a T-junction in front of her during a training ride.

Archibald, who rides for Ceratizit-WNT on the road, had only recently returned to riding after a crash at the Glasgow track cycling Nations Cup where she sustained a broken collarbone and a head injury. One month before that crash Archibald rode to fourth overall at the 2.1 EasyToys Bloeizone Fryslân Tour on the road.

“Can’t say I’m loving 2022,” the Omnium world champion wrote in an Instagram post.

“We also think I’ve avoided another serious concussion and the 3.5 ligaments in my dodgy right knee have survived, so celebrations are in order for that,” she added.

Earlier this week Archibald announced she had been selected to ride for Team Scotland at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, which will take place in early August.

“Life is long. That’s my update. Promise we’ll be back to good news the next time I post; these ones are getting boring.”
