James Franklin just loves taking helicopter rides.

If we can’t be happy about the current state of Penn State football, at least we can dream about the future. Even amid being locked in on Ohio State prep, the Nittany Lions were able to make waves in the recruiting world.

FRANKLIN VISITS QB COMMIT

The highlight of this week’s recruiting news was a Friday visit by James Franklin to four-star quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer’s Senior Day. Olentangy High School is not far from Columbus, where Penn State had a game the next day (duh).

Due to the convenient location, much of the Penn State football beat was also on hand for the game.

Olentangy went on to pick up the win over Marysville, improving its record to 9-1.

LEGACY LB VISITS THE SHOE

Four-star linebacker Anthony Sacca, out of Philadelphia’s St. Joe’s Prep, was in Columbus to watch Penn State get embarrassed by the Buckeyes. This is only notable because his dad, Tony Sacca, was a Nittany Lions quarterback from 1988 to 91.

Despite the legacy connection, Penn State doesn’t seem to be a front-runner for Sacca at this point in his recruiting process. He’s visited Michigan and Notre Dame in addition to Ohio State and holds offers from Florida State, Georgia, and Miami.

PENN STATE OFFERS EXCITING SOUTHERN PROSPECTS

Penn State’s recruiting staff took a break from some of its Ohio State prep to extend a handful of intriguing offers to prospects from southern states. It’s no surprise Ja’Juan Seider was involved in at least two of their recruitments.

The first was to Class of 2026 wide receiver Devin Carter (no, not that wide receiver Devin Carter) from Ellenwood, Georgia. The four-star prospect is already verbally committed to Florida State, but is early in his recruiting process. He’s currently slated as a top-10 prospect in the state of Georgia.

Next up was another Georgia prospect, four-star 2026 running back Jonaz Walton, who is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 running back in his class. The Central High School prospect also holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia, among others.

Class of 2025 linebacker Ty Jackson, a four-star from Flordia, also got the call from the Nittany Lions. Jackson is a late riser in the recruiting cycle and did not receive a Power 5 offer until attending camp at Tennessee in May. Florida State, Miami, and Florida are among the other schools that have extended offers.
