NCAA Football: Penn State Blue White Game
Matthew O’Haren-USA TODAY Sports

Stop us if you’ve heard this before: Ethan Grunkemeyer’s stock is going up.

While a sleepy Rutgers matchup didn’t create much buzz in Happy Valley, James Franklin & Co. were still active in the recruiting world as National Signing Day inches closer.

QB MOVES UP IN RANKINGS AGAIN

Stop us if you’ve heard this before: Ethan Grunkemeyer’s stock is going up.

The four-star Ohio prospect is now the No. 8 quarterback in On3’s updated recruiting rankings, and No. 2 in the Big Ten — only behind Buckeye commit Air Noland. This also bumped him up to the No. 102 recruit in 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. On May 24, he was No. 745.

Penn State’s Class of 2024 holds the No. 13 overall spot in the composite class rankings as well, behind only Ohio State in the Big Ten. Well, actually, Oregon is No. 6.

Grunkemeyer will also play in the Under Armour Next All-American Game on Jan. 3. He is also set to early enroll during the spring semester.

PENN STATE IN TOP SIX FOR NO. 1 LB

Five-star Class of 2025 linebacker Zayden Walker recently announced the six schools he’ll be choosing from, and the Nittany Lions made the cut.

Walker hails from Ellaville, Georgia, which historically has not been a recruiting hotbed for Penn State. It will have to compete with other southern schools like Florida State, Georgia, and Alabama. In fact, the Nittany Lions are the only program north of Columbia, South Carolina, to make Walker’s final cut.

On3 currently projects him to land with the Bulldogs, but he does not have a final decision date set yet.

LEGACY LB GETS OFFERED

LaVar Arrington Jr., son of iconic Penn State linebacker LaVar Arrington, picked up an offer from the Nittany Lions.

Arrington is a three-star recruit in the Class of 2025 and plays both linebacker and running back at Charter Oak in Covina, California. Recruiting coordinator and letterman Alan Zemaitis also seems to be involved in Arrington’s recruitment. He also holds offers from Washington, Colorado, and Oregon State, among others.

POST-RUTGERS OFFERS GO OUT

A Thanksgiving break game against Rutgers isn’t exactly a hot recruiting weekend for Penn State, but a handful of recruits were still in town. A notable attendee was three-star offensive lineman Ben Howard, who traveled to Beaver Stadium from Utah. He was offered by the Nittany Lions in early September.

Among those who attended the Rutgers game on visits were four-star edge rusher Darren Ikinnagbon, three-star wideout Shaun Terry, and three-star safety Josh Makai. Ikinnagbon, at 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, is one to keep an eye on. Penn State seems to be in early on his recruitment as he has no other offers from a Big Ten program.
