There is a renewed sense of optimism within the Ohio State men’s basketball program after Jake Diebler took over as interim head coach.
That tends to happen after upsetting the top team in the conference, Purdue, and ending a program-record road conference losing steak all inside a week of each other. The wins over the Boilermakers and Michigan State represent two of the Buckeyes best wins, along with a victory over Alabama, Oakland, Rutgers, and Santa Clara.
Ohio State has fared decently well versus Quadrant 1 teams, going 3-5, which isn’t as bad as you would think. Their Quad 2 record is not good, as the Buckeyes have lost both games played against those opponents.

Quad 3 is the best for Ohio State, It has the most victories against these team in the country with 10 while dropping five of those. The Buckeyes are undefeated against Quad 4 teams at 3-0.
The overall record of 16-12, 6-11 in Big Ten play isn’t pretty, but with four games remaining in the regular season, there is some hope. If the Buckeyes were to win each of those games, they’d push their record to 19-12, which could get them into the NCAA Tournament.
Win a couple Big Ten Tournament games and they could inch past the 20 win mark, which would drastically increase their hopes.
Playing in a major conference helps Ohio State, but its back is against the wall with virtually no wiggle room if they drop any of their remaining regular season games, starting with Nebraska on Thursday night.
