Harris was a five-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting cycle.
Penn State football just nabbed one of the transfer portal’s biggest names.
Former Georgia defensive back A.J. Harris made the call for the Nittany Lions, according to a report from Sean Fitz at Penn State On3.

Harris appeared in seven games during his freshman year with the Bulldogs, burning his redshirt. He registered eight total tackles during his debut season, against Florida, Ball State, and UT Martin. He did not log an interception or PBU.
The Alabama native was among the most highly coveted recruits in the Class of 2023, earning five-star status thanks to his No. 27 national rank in 247Sports’ Composite ratings. He was the top recruit from the state of Alabama and the No. 2 cornerback. Talent evaluator Andrew Ivins compared him to James Bradberry and noted that he has an “ideal size/speed combo.” A year in the Georgia defense machine couldn’t have hurt his development, either.
Martin’s commitment will be a huge boost for a Nittany Lions’ secondary that struggled mightily against Ole Miss’ passing attack in the Peach Bowl. He will go a long way in replacing the likes of Kalen King, Johnny Dixon, and Daequan Hardy and will have an immediate opportunity to earn a starting job upon arrival in Happy Valley.
Credit where credit is due: James Franklin has come up with immediate answers to some of this offseason’s biggest concerns after adding Julian Fleming to the receiver corp and now Harris to the secondary. Penn State is netting drastically to the positive side in the transfer portal battle.
