Maryland's top receiver, Dontay Demus Jr., lost for season

As if it wasn’t going to be an uphill climb anyway, Maryland’s chances of beating Ohio State on the football field this weekend just got a little tougher.

That’s because Terps’ head coach Mike Locksley announced on Tuesday that star wide receiver Dontay Demus, Jr. has been lost for the season due to surgery on his left knee. That came after Demus exited the game against Iowa on Friday night after already wracking up 61 yards. Maryland went on to lose to No. 3 Iowa 51-14.

It’s obviously a huge loss for the Terrapins. Demus was in the midst of putting quite the year together, having totaled 507 yards already on the season and becoming the team’s main big-play threat on the outside. And with quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa throwing five interceptions against the Hawkeyes, the loss of his security blanket at the receiver position is a big hit.

Now, the Terrapins will head to Columbus to go against a team that seems to be improving quickly, and doing it undermanned.
