It has been far from the Big Ten season the Ohio State softball team would have liked after a fairly successful early nonconference slate. The Buckeyes have given Northwestern its only conference loss of the campaign, but they haven’t been able to string together much else. In fact, entering Sunday, OSU has just two conference wins under its belt.
That changed on Sunday when the Buckeyes were able to win the last of a three-game series on the road against the Wisconsin Badgers, 9-5, to run their conference record to 3-9, and overall record to 21-17.
The Badgers got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning but Jasmyn Burns cut that deficit in half with a run-scoring double to make it 2-1 in the top of the second inning.
Wisconsin would add another run in the bottom of the third inning but McKenzie Bump and Burns would go back-to-back to tie the score up at three runs each in the top of the fourth.
The Badgers struck again in the bottom of the inning with one run, but then OSU would take command with a six-run fifth inning to take a commanding 9-4 lead. Wisconsin would add one more run in the bottom of the fifth but that would be all of the scoring.
Allison Smith got the win in the circle, going 5.2 innings in relief, allowing just one more hit in the game to get her 13th win of the year.
