The transfer portal giveth, and it also taketh.
While Penn State landed a wide receiver yesterday afternoon, it also lost one as former Kent State transfer Dante Cephas is back in the portal after one year with the Nittany Lions.

Cephas ranked as the No. 37 overall player in the portal last cycle after transferring in from Kent State. He caught 22 passes this season. https://t.co/1VTdXOu3Ia pic.twitter.com/hErXGGV6wW
Cephas came to Penn State with much jubilation, as the Western PA native was a standout at Kent State, earning first-team All-MAC honors while with the Golden Flashes. After having to enroll at Penn State after the spring semester to earn his degree at Kent State, it was a slow start for Cephas. He had just seven catches through the first five games of the season as he acclimated to the Power Five. He began to turn a corner of sorts, finishing the month of November with 11 receptions, including a two-touchdown outing against Maryland.
The breakthrough was short-lived though, as Cephas was completely benched during the Peach Bowl. Asked after the game about Cephas’ absent, James Franklin and Marques Hagans alluded to some practice issues in the lead up to the Ole Miss game.
ICYMI: James Franklin cited “open competition every week” as the reason why Dante Cephas didn’t play in the Peach Bowl. Marques Hagans said there’s “accountability” for how guys practice. https://t.co/LxS7jsu6PB

From there, the transfer seemed inevitable. And thus, Cephas ends his Penn State career with just 22 receptions. Tough goings after the excitement his commitment brought last year.
While Penn State will welcome Julian Fleming to the fray in a couple days, don’t expect the former Southern Columbia standout to be the lone wideout the Nittany Lions will try to bring in before the winter semester starts. Multiple wide receivers from the transfer portal was the original plan, and with the departure of Cephas, that plan is only emphasized. One potential option? Florida Atlantic slot LaJohntay Wester, who will reportedly visit Penn State in the coming days,
