Arsenal ready to battle Manchester United in the signing of this £40m midfielder: Will he leave in January?

Manchester United has reportedly joined Arsenal in the race to sign Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, who is 24 years old.

United have hit rock bottom under interim manager Ralf Rangnick, and the German manager is eager to bring in some much-needed reinforcements now that the transfer window has opened. According to The Sun, Rangnick is interested in signing the Wolves midfielder.

This isn’t the first time Man United has been linked with the 24-year-old, but this time, Arsenal is also interested in signing him, putting the Old Trafford club in a tough spot.

Mikel Arteta wants Ruben Neves to become his long-term partner after Arsenal found one solid defensive midfielder in Thomas Partey.

Granit Xhaka has been a long-serving member of the Arsenal squad, but an upgrade to the Swiss international is required if the Gunners are to compete for a place in the top four.

Man United lost their first match of 2022 to Wolves, and Ralf Rangnick urgently needs a world-class central midfielder to right the ship. According to reports, the German is interested in a Bundesliga player, but the club is more likely to go with a safe option like Ruben Neves rather than take a chance on an unknown Bundesliga player.

United is willing to spend money this month, but if they are serious about signing the midfielder, they will face a three-way battle. First and foremost, they must fend off interest.

Finally, Ralf Rangnick must persuade Ruben Neves to abandon Bruno Lage’s side and join a struggling Manchester United.

According to reports, Man United and Arsenal are both willing to offer around £35 million for Ruben Neves, while Wolves are demanding £40 million.

Both sides are more than capable of paying such a sum, but Bruno Lage is said to be hesitant to part with such a valuable asset in the middle of the season.

Wolves’ current contract with Neves expires in 2024, so the manager has no plans to sell him. This means the only way he’ll sell is if Man United or Arsenal make a ridiculous offer, or if Ruben Neves expresses an interest in leaving in January.

Ruben Neves has been crucial for Wolves this season, earning a 7.36 out of 10 rating, and Lage would prefer to keep him for the rest of the season rather than sell him to one of his direct rivals.
