Arsenal continued their impressive form by defeating Leicester City by two goals to nil at the Emirates Stadium yesterday.
The Gunners took the lead in the 11th minute thanks to Thomas Partey’s header from a corner, with the Foxes conceding from a set-piece for the third time this season and having conceded the most goals from these situations.
After Caglar Soyuncu handled Partey’s header in the 59th minute, Mikel Arteta’s side increased their lead, with Alexandre Lacazette stepping up and dispatching the spot-kick with ease. Arsenal has now won five games in a row, putting them in pole position to finish in the top four this season.
The north Londoners’ next match is against Liverpool on Wednesday night, which promises to be a high-octane Premier League clash. Jurgen Klopp’s Reds defeated Arsenal 4-0 at Anfield earlier this season, and have beaten them on a regular basis for many years.
However, they may be forced to face Arsenal without their star player, Mohamed Salah. This season, the Egyptian has been in superb form, scoring 20 Premier League goals for the fourth time in five years.
But, before converting his penalty kick against Brighton on Saturday, the 29-year-old injured his foot and was replaced moments later. Although Klopp stated after the game that Salah was unconcerned about the issue, the Liverpool Echo reports that he did not attend the club’s most recent training session.
It could be a significant boost for Arsenal, as the former Chelsea forward has been a constant thorn in their side. Even if Salah is unavailable, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz are all capable of posing a serious threat.
