On Sunday, Arsenal made it four wins in a row in all competitions, including three in the Premier League, by thrashing Tottenham Hotspur and leapfrogging them in the table.
The encounter against Brighton on Saturday now provides a significant opportunity. Not just to maintain the momentum, but also to gain ground on the remainder of the top half of the field.
With Liverpool taking on City, United taking on Everton, West Ham taking on Brentford, and Spurs taking on Villa, a win for Arsenal would see them catch up to – or even go ahead of – at least five of the top 11 teams. If the findings go their way, they may be able to get even more.
Arsenal, in particular, must take advantage of the fact that the other elite clubs are depleting their energies in Europe throughout the week. Mikel Arteta, on the other hand, should be able to pick his best available team on Saturday. Here’s how we think Arsenal will line up against Brighton.
GOALKEEPER
Aaron Ramsdale has earned his position and is doing a good job of keeping it. Against Spurs, he surrendered his first Arsenal goal, but he also made several outstanding saves and claims to ensure the victory. Bernd Leno will have to battle hard to reclaim his spot.
DEFENDERS
The defence is picking itself at the moment, particularly with new signings Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White performing so well against Spurs. They should start again, with Gabriel Magalhaes and Kieran Tierney on the other side of the back four.
MIDFIELDERS
Arteta will almost probably be obliged to make a change in this situation. Granit Xhaka’s injury isn’t looking good at the moment, therefore he’ll most likely miss this encounter. Albert Sambi Lokonga, who played in the Spurs game, will most likely replace him.
We’re finally getting a run of games with Thomas Partey in the lineup, thus he should start. To complete the midfield trio, Martin Odegaard is an obvious pick.
It’s probable that Arteta reverts to the midfield three he employed against Burnley, with Partey, Odegaard, and Emile Smith Rowe.
But you’d assume Arteta would want to maintain Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka in the front three following their performance against Spurs.
STRIKER
As previously said, Smith Rowe and Saka are expected to start in the wide positions, with Tierney and Tomiyasu providing assistance on the outside. In the derby, that setup worked brilliantly, and Arsenal always looks better with Saka on the right.
Pierre-Emerick With his six goals in six games this season, Aubameyang will round out the front three. He still has to establish himself in the Premier League, but he’s beginning to exhibit the form that won him a contract extension.
