India tour to Sri Lanka: Dasun Shanaka likely to replace Kusal Perera as Sri Lanka’s white ball captain

Xtra Time Web Desk: Sri Lanka Cricket is likely to appoint Dasun Shanaka as the captain for the upcoming white ball series against India. Shanaka will replace Kusal Perera after he failed miserably as captain in the recently concluded series against England. According to reports in Sri Lankan media, the announcement will be made in the next 48 hours.

The 29 year old Shanaka has earlier led Sri Lanka. He successfully led his country to 3-0 T20I series win against Pakistan in 2019.  Dasun was also named captain for the T20I series against West Indies earlier this year but due to visa issues, he could not travel with the team on time. 

However, the only thing which goes against Shanaka is that he has never led Lanka in a ODI match. Sri Lanka will also appoint a new vice-captain in Dhananjaya De Silva as Kusal Mendis is suspended for breaching the bio-bubble in England recently..

Kusal Perera, who was appointed as the captain in the away series against Bangladesh and England, endured a tough time losing 7 matches out of the 9 matches. The selectors have decided to relieve him from captaincy so that he can concentrate on his natural game as an opening batsman and wicket-keeper of the team.
