Xtra Time Web Desk: India women lost the first T20 against England via D/L method at Northampton on Friday. Batting first England women posted 177/7 with Natalie Sciver scoring the fastest T20 fifty in England women history. Sciver scored 55 off 27 balls. Chasing 72 runs to win in 8.4 overs, India women lost wickets at regular intervals. They were reduced to 54/3, 18 runs behind the revised target when rain stopped play. Smriti Mandhana looked good with her quickfire 29 off 17 balls. But the dismissal of her and captain Harmanpreet Kaur saw the visitors below the target. The result means India women cannot win the multi format series trailing 4-8 with just two T20s remaining.

Harmanpreet won the toss and put England in to bat first. Tammy Beaumont (18) and Danni Wyatt (31) gave a decent start adding 56 in just 44 balls. Nat Sciver was the pick of the English batters as she blazed her way to fifty off only 24 balls. She struck 8 boundaries and one six over covers. Amy Jones also made useful contribution with 43 runs. The duo added 78 runs off 42 balls to set up a stiff target for the visitors. Shikha Pandey was the most successful Indian bowler with three wickets.

Both sides will meet again for the second T20 on Sunday.
