Jofra Archer’s concerns turned reality as England footballers face racist abuse after Euro 2020 defeat to Italy

Xtra Time Web Desk: England footballers were subject to racial abuse on social media following Sunday night’s Euro 2020 final loss to Italy at the Wembley stadium. The social abuse was targeted towards Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka, who failed to score in the penalty shootouts.

The England football team felt “disgusted” when the players were subjected to “discriminatory abuse” on social media following the Euro Cup final loss.

“We’re disgusted that some of our squad – who have given everything for the shirt this summer – have been subjected to discriminatory abuse online after tonight’s game. We stand with our players,” the England team tweeted.

England fast bowler Jofra Archer tweeted his concern immediately after the final.

Archer tweeted, “Do not racially abuse those players tonight !”

England all rounder Ben Stokes supported Archer’s views on twitter as well.

The Barbados born cricketer’s concerns did turn out to be a reality as the fans racially abused the England footballers after the loss. Archer himself has been subject to social abuse during the test series against West Indies at home last year.

The Football Association also condemned the racial abuses of the players on social media.
